Northstar commuter rail service was suspended by Metro Transit effective January 2026. The Council leased one Northstar locomotive to Sound Transit from June to August 2026 under lease agreement 26M055, at no cost to the Council, and the Council's February 2026 forecast schedule lists a 'North Star Elk River and Coon Rapids Station Removals' invitation for bids - 'Demolition and removal of platforms and infrastructure on BNSF ROW' - for the first quarter of 2026 at an Estimated Contract Value of 'TBD'.
