The Port announced the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements award from the US Department of Transportation in October 2024 for design and engineering of comprehensive updates to the Coos Bay Rail Line, and its June 2026 release lists the award among the federal and state investments behind the Pacific Coast Intermodal Port. The Port names no contractor, publishes no solicitation for the scope and publishes no construction value for the work the design would lead to.

The headline says $29 million, the second paragraph calls it 'a pivotal $29 million CRISI … grant dedicated to modernizing the Coos Bay Rail Line' and the body states that 'the $29.7 million CRISI grant enables the design and engineering of comprehensive updates to the Coos Bay Rail Line, including track rehabilitation, updates to signals and communication systems, and critical reviews of tunnels, bridges and rail crossings'.
