The US Department of Transportation awarded a BUILD grant in July 2026 for design and construction, which VPRA states secures full funding; the August 2026 budget amendment raised the line on the strength of it. VPRA is coordinating with CSX and Amtrak on project scope and funding agreements. No construction contract has been let.
