- ● transports.public.lu — Nouvelle ligne ferroviaire Luxembourg-Bettembourg · The ministry's own project page. 'La nouvelle ligne ferroviaire entre Luxembourg et Bettembourg prevoit la construction en site propre d'un nouveau troncon de ligne a deux voies d'une longueur d'environ 7 km, sans arret intermediaire.' The route leaves the future Howald interchange, crosses the A3 motorway south of the Gasperich junction, runs west of it to Bettembourg, leaves the motorway north of the Berchem service area, passes under the RN31 and crosses the existing Luxembourg-Bettembourg line in the Alzette valley on a flyover, after which the new and existing lines run side by side to the north entrance of Bettembourg station; the crossing also requires the existing line to be shifted about thirty metres. Two structures are named as remarkable: OA14 at the A3 crossing south of Howald, and OA05/OA06, the flyover, at the crossing with the existing line north of Bettembourg. Chiffres-cles: 'Le cout du projet s'eleve a 292.013.570,- euros hTVA (indice 730,85 au 1er avril 2013)'; about 52 ha of land to acquire; maximum design speed 160 km/h; besides the rail platform with its track, catenary and signalling equipment the project includes one road underpass, one flyover, one railway bridge, four road bridges, six hydraulic structures, thirteen retention basins and one wildlife crossing. The page names the connected projects the design must accommodate: the future Howald interchange, the widening of the A3 to 2x3 lanes, the extension of the Berchem service area, the rebuilding of the N31 junction at Livange, the removal of level crossing PN4a in rue Lentz at Bettembourg, the future multimodal platform at Bettembourg and the new signalling centre at Bettembourg station (published 2026 · checked 2026-09-14)
