WisDOT's page says final design is under way with construction anticipated from 2025 to 2027. The Borealis has run since 21 May 2024 under an agreement with CPKC while the works proceed. No let contract was found. The federal record runs to July 2029 after a December 2025 modification. WisDOT proposed an eight-gate scheme at La Crosse crossings in 2024 and may revert to median extensions.
