Standing system expansion programmes in the 2026 Transit Improvement Plan with unchanged authorized allocations. The Board authorised the chief executive officer in August 2026 to advance design, procurement and implementation planning for a Fare Gate Retrofit Pilot Program to install fare gates at up to fourteen light rail stations; Motion M2026-30 states that funding for that work will be included in the Transit Technology programme of the 2027 Proposed Budget and TIP, subject to Board approval, and that the entire cost of the project including construction is estimated, with a future Board action to request the construction funds. The Innovation and Technology Program allocation was increased for the faregate pilot study and Sound Transit published a faregate assessment report in June 2026. An on-call consulting solicitation for transit fare collection and payment industry advice, RP 0157-26, was open on the vendor portal to October 2026.
