The territory's only federal-railway presence is CN's line into Hay River, and the Canadian Transportation Agency's own notices show CN's authority to operate it lapsed with a notice of discontinuance effective 28 October 2025. Transport Canada's National Trade Corridors Fund funds two current territorial road-corridor projects -- the Mackenzie Valley Highway and the Slave Geological Province Access Corridor -- and neither is rail.
